BPJS Ketenagakerjaan launches PEKA for 1,426 worker families

The program goes beyond cash aid, adding business support so heirs can become self-reliant and create jobs.

BPJS Ketenagakerjaan launched the Economic Empowerment and Independence Program for Beneficiaries (PEKA) for 1,426 beneficiaries across Indonesia, with the national launch centered in Bandung on Tuesday, 18 August. The program targets worker families that lost their main breadwinner in a workplace accident or to illness. Manpower Minister Yassierli inaugurated the event with BPJS Ketenagakerjaan President Director Saiful Hidayat and the Bandung city government, represented by regional secretary Iskandar Zulkarnain. PEKA is designed so compensation is not spent only on consumption, but becomes capital for skills, businesses and a new source of livelihood. The Manpower Ministry is also preparing mentoring support so beneficiaries and heirs can build sustainable businesses.
