Bobby urges PLN compensation after rolling blackouts in Sumut
PLN is still speeding repairs on 12 damaged SUTET towers, while any compensation must await central government approval.
North Sumatera Governor Bobby Nasution has asked PT PLN to compensate residents affected by rolling blackouts in several areas of Sumut. During a visit Monday to the PLN Unit Pelaksana Pengatur Beban Sumatera Bagian Utara office in Medan, Bobby said residents were harmed because the blackout schedule and areas were not clearly communicated, leaving households and small businesses unable to prepare.
He urged PLN to improve communication with customers and local governments, while speeding restoration after damage to 12 Saluran Udara Tegangan Ekstra Tinggi towers caused by extreme weather. According to Bobby, compensation could take the form of bill relief or discounts on prepaid electricity tokens. PLN UID Sumut General Manager Mundakhir Salman apologized for the disruption and said the compensation proposal would be forwarded to the Kementerian ESDM because the decision is not within the authority of regional PLN.
