BNPB urges Malaysia, Singapore not to trade blame over haze
Indonesia has added Air Force support and now deploys 52 aircraft for wildfire operations across six priority provinces.
BNPB urged Malaysia and Singapore not to blame each other over the impact of haze from forest and land fires in Kalimantan. BNPB acting head of the Center for Data, Information and Disaster Communication Berton SP Panjaitan said wildfires do not recognize administrative or national borders, so the response must be carried out jointly and based on meteorological data, satellite images and field monitoring. He said the Indonesian government has deployed major resources, from ground and aerial firefighting to water bombing, weather modification operations and law enforcement. At present, 52 aircraft are deployed in six priority provinces, with 30 aircraft in Kalimantan and 22 in Sumatra. The government has also added support from the Air Force to strengthen operations in Kalimantan.
