BNPB deploys 39 air assets, urges public to report fire spots

Ground and air operations are focused on six priority provinces in Sumatra and Kalimantan as dry weather lifts the wildfire risk.

BNPB is asking residents in wildfire-prone areas, especially in Kalimantan and Sumatera, to report immediately if they find fire spots or fires so suppression can begin before flames spread. BNPB is now deploying ground and air operations in six priority provinces: Riau, Jambi, Sumatera Selatan, Kalimantan Selatan, Kalimantan Tengah, and Kalimantan Barat. A total of 39 air assets are on standby, including patrol helicopters, weather modification aircraft and water bombing helicopters. BNPB Data, Information and Disaster Communication Center head Berton SP Panjaitan said rapid reporting is important to limit impacts on residents, the environment and economic activity. BNPB also warned the public not to clear land by burning amid dry weather that increases the fire risk.
