BNPB intensifies weather modification in 4 provinces to curb forest fires
Kalteng still has more than 321 hectares unextinguished, the largest remaining area among the priority operation zones.
BNPB is intensifying weather modification operations to suppress forest and land fires in Kalimantan Barat, Kalimantan Tengah, Sumatera Selatan, and with support from Kalimantan Selatan. In Sumsel, operations from the Palembang command post since 16 October have logged eight sorties using 1,600 kilograms of salt and 4,000 dry ice; an additional 6,2 tons of supplies also arrived at Lanud Sri Mulyono Herlambang, Palembang, on 21 October. In Kalteng, seeding was carried out in six sorties with a total of 3,900 kilograms of dry ice and 800 kilograms of salt. BNPB said Kalteng still has the largest unextinguished area, more than 321 hectares. In Kalbar, daily operations are focused on Ketapang and Kayong Utara, while aircraft from Kalsel and Riau are on standby to support response efforts in Kalteng and Sumsel.
