BNPB: Forest and land fires in Sumatra, Kalimantan fall to 359 hectares

The burned area fell from 1,566 hectares a day earlier, while 51,057 joint personnel remain deployed for response efforts.

BNPB reported that the area burned by forest and land fires in Sumatra and Kalimantan fell again on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, to 359 hectares from 1,566 hectares a day earlier. A day earlier, the affected area had also shrunk from 4,382 hectares to 1,589 hectares as natural rainfall began to hit several regions. Acting head of BNPB's Center for Data, Information and Disaster Communication Berton SP Panjaitan said the clearest decline came after rain fell over parts of the affected areas. On Tuesday, the fires in Sumatra were reported only in South Sumatra, covering around 23 hectares, while in Kalimantan, fires remained in Central Kalimantan, South Kalimantan and West Kalimantan. BNPB said 51,057 joint personnel were still deployed to accelerate response efforts.
