BMKG warns of heavy rain, strong winds in 2 major cities
Pangkal Pinang and Tanjung Selor face very heavy rain and lightning, while most other major cities will see clouds or light rain.
BMKG forecasts that most major cities in Indonesia on Friday will be cloudy or see light rain, but two areas face more severe weather. Forecaster Sufia Nur said Pangkal Pinang and Tanjung Selor could experience moderate to very heavy rain that may be accompanied by lightning and strong winds. BMKG said the conditions are driven by convergence zones stretching along the eastern coast of the Philippines, the eastern Philippine Sea, northern Philippines and the Sulu Sea, which are triggering rain cloud growth. Light to moderate rain is expected in Medan, Pekanbaru, Padang, Tanjung Pinang, Palembang, Banjarmasin, Mamuju, Palu, Gorontalo and Nabire. Meanwhile, Jakarta, Bandung, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Denpasar, Makassar, Ambon, Jayapura and several other major cities are forecast to be cloudy.
