BMKG lifts tsunami warning after M7.7 Nagekeo quake

Coastal residents can resume activities, but BMKG urged continued caution as aftershocks remain possible after the quake.

BMKG said the tsunami threat from the magnitude 7.7 earthquake that shook Nagekeo, Nusa Tenggara Timur, on Saturday morning has ended. With that status, residents near the coast and fishermen can return to activities, although vigilance against aftershocks is still being urged. The quake struck at 04.58 WIB with an epicenter about 30 kilometers northeast of Mbay, Nagekeo Regency, at a depth of 15 kilometers. After the quake, BMKG had issued an early tsunami warning for NTT, NTB, and Sulawesi Selatan. A standby status of 0.5 to 3 meters applied in areas including northern Manggarai, Ngada, Ende, Flores Timur, and Jeneponto, while Bima, Dompu, Wajo, and parts of Flores Timur were under advisory status below 0.5 meters.
