Blanche ends disputed DOJ fund, reviving Senate AG vote

What's next: The Senate Judiciary Committee is set to vote Tuesday after John Cornyn and Thom Tillis signaled support.

Todd Blanche moved closer to confirmation as attorney general after the Justice Department formally terminated the “anti-weaponization fund” that had stalled his nomination. Sen. John Cornyn’s office said the department also issued a binding written document limiting the related IRS audit settlement to the named plaintiffs, including President Donald Trump, and the IRS. Thom Tillis said he was also satisfied. The Senate Judiciary Committee plans to vote Tuesday on Blanche’s nomination. Blanche also posted documents showing the May order creating the fund had been rescinded and that the settlement applies only retroactively, not as indefinite protection from future tax audits for Trump and his family.
