BGN closes 833 MBG kitchens, fires 261 staff
Free meal service will be shifted to nearby kitchens, while the shut facilities will no longer be paid after SOP violations.
The National Nutrition Agency permanently shut 833 Satuan Pelayanan Pemenuhan Gizi kitchens in the Makan Bergizi Gratis program as of July 27, 2026. BGN head Sudaryono said the kitchens will no longer be paid because they were found to have violated standards, from unhygienic food and menu quality linked to poisoning cases to wastewater treatment installations that did not meet requirements. Of the total, 98 kitchens are in Sumatera, 311 in Jawa and Madura, and 424 in Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Maluku, Bali, Nusa Tenggara Barat, Nusa Tenggara Timur, and Papua. BGN also dismissed 261 employees, consisting of 224 non-ASN staff and 37 experts. In addition, 9 ASN were placed under severe disciplinary proceedings and 39 other ASN received lighter sanctions. BGN is arranging to shift service portions to other kitchens so beneficiaries continue to be served.
