BGN studies limiting MBG to students in lower income deciles

The review is due in a month and could also prioritize underdeveloped areas and regions with high stunting rates.

The National Nutrition Agency is still reviewing a proposal to focus the Makan Bergizi Gratis program on students from lower income deciles, rather than providing it evenly, including to children from well-off families. BGN Deputy Head Trenggono said the review is under way after President Prabowo Subianto gave the agency one month to evaluate the program's implementation. In separate talks at the State Palace, BGN Deputy Head Agustina Arumsari said priorities could also be directed to underdeveloped areas and regions with high stunting prevalence. BGN has not detailed the new eligibility criteria, including the source data to be used as a reference or the number of beneficiaries. Agustina also raised the possibility that the budget per meal could differ between Java and eastern Indonesia, rather than being set uniformly at Rp15.000.
