BGN permanently closes 504 MBG kitchens over sanitation
About 3,000 other kitchens are still under local health inspections as BGN enforces a zero-tolerance policy on poisoning.
The National Nutrition Agency has permanently closed 504 Makan Bergizi Gratis kitchens through Aug. 10, 2026 after they were deemed unsanitary. The Satuan Pelayanan Pemenuhan Gizi kitchens are spread across various regions and were shut based on reports from local health offices channeled through the Health Ministry. BGN head Sudaryono announced the decision at a special coordination meeting with the Home Affairs Minister and regional leaders from across Indonesia in Jakarta on Thursday, as part of tighter food safety standards for the MBG program. In addition to the 504 closed kitchens, about 3,000 registered kitchens are still being inspected. BGN said food safety concerns the welfare of beneficiaries, especially children, so kitchens that do not meet requirements will not be approved.
