Bea Cukai Soetta seizes 23.79 kg of gold, 7 Chinese nationals held

The Rp63 billion gold was bound for Hong Kong and Dubai, hidden on the body and moved through ground handling routes.

Bea Cukai Soekarno-Hatta and Aviation Security foiled two attempts to smuggle gold out of the country at Terminal 3 of Soekarno-Hatta Airport on 11 August 2026. The seized items totaled 23.793 kilograms, worth about Rp63 billion, and seven Chinese nationals were detained. The first case emerged during checks on passengers bound for Hong Kong on flights CX798 and GA860. Officers found 41 pieces of 24-karat gold weighing 17.436 kilograms, some stored in a hand-carry bag, in modified underwear, and hidden in the genital and rectal areas. The second case involved a ground handling staff member carrying 7 gold bars weighing 6.35 kilograms to be handed to a passenger bound for Dubai through airport operational channels. Bea Cukai said the passengers in the first case had met the elements of the crime of export smuggling.
