Bayern’s Jamal Musiala links 2 on-field collapses to treatable seizures
What’s new: The 23-year-old said doctors diagnosed brief absence seizures and cleared him to keep playing.
Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala said two collapses during friendly matches in four days were caused by brief, treatable absence seizures tied to a neurological dysfunction. The 23-year-old went down after coming off the bench in Bayern’s 4-2 win at Heidenheim on Tuesday, days after a similar episode in a 3-1 friendly against RB Leipzig. In an Instagram statement, Musiala said he is receiving medical care and that there is no further long-term health risk. He added that, in consultation with neurologists, he wants to continue living normally and playing. Bayern sporting director Max Eberl had indicated after Tuesday’s match that the club knew about the condition.
