Batam-Singapore cable opens 50 km digital link with 1.6 pbps

A new undersea cable linking Batam and Singapore has been completed, adding a 50-kilometer high-speed route between Nongsa Digital Park and Changi as both countries push to deepen digital ties. The Nongsa-Changi Cable will provide more than 1.6 petabits per second of capacity with latency below two milliseconds, officials said at a ceremony in Batam on Monday. The project was developed by Telin, a unit of PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia International, with Singapore-based BW Digital and strategic support from Nongsa Digital Park. Indonesian and Singapore officials cast the cable as a new digital corridor that could support data centers, cloud computing, AI applications and cross-border business operations across the Batam-Bintan-Karimun zone.
