Bareskrim seizes 28 tons of illegal tin in Belitung, 2 held
Investigators say 97 of 568 sacks had already been paid for and were ready for shipment to Malaysia as they pursue other links in the supply chain.
Bareskrim Polri together with Polda Kepulauan Bangka Belitung seized 28 tons of illegal tin sand and arrested two suspects in Desa Gantung, Belitung Timur, on Thursday (13/8) early in the morning. Police raided a house used as a storage warehouse and found 568 sacks of tin believed to have come from illegal mining. According to Bareskrim Polri Director of Certain Crimes Mohammad Irhamni, 97 of the sacks were believed to have been paid for and ready to be smuggled to Malaysia. The two suspects detained were RR, who is suspected of acting as an intermediary in sourcing the tin sand in Belitung Timur, and DW, the driver transporting the tin. The evidence is now being stored at the Belitung Timur Police headquarters, while investigators trace other parties in the mining and smuggling network.
