Bappenas backs green economy as engine for 8 percent growth

Bappenas says the shift could create more than 5 million new green jobs by 2029 and reshape 72 million jobs.

Bappenas is positioning the green economy as one of the main engines for Indonesia to pursue 8 percent economic growth sustainably. Minister of PPN/Kepala Bappenas Rachmat Pambudy said the transition is projected to create more than 5 million new green jobs by 2029, while transforming more than 72 million jobs to be more productive, value-added and sustainable. He made the remarks at the Bangun Bangsa Conference 2026 in Jakarta on Friday. Bappenas said the approach is already built into the national development architecture, including RPJPN 2025-2045 and RPJMN 2025-2029, and is tied to the net zero emission 2060 target or earlier. Rachmat also stressed the role of the private sector, inclusive financing, regulatory reform and stronger green skills so the benefits reach households, villages, coastal areas and grassroots economic centers.
