Bapanas boosts garlic supplies to eastern Indonesia

Wholesale honan garlic prices at Pasar Induk Kramat Jati fell to Rp22.500 per kg, but imported kating remains scarce.

Badan Pangan Nasional is working with distributors and importers to increase garlic supplies and restrain price increases, especially in eastern Indonesia, where distribution problems remain. Bapanas Deputy for Food Availability and Stabilization I Gusti Ketut Astawa said overseas procurement supplies would be optimized so they are distributed more evenly across regions. The move comes as Badan Pusat Statistik data showed the garlic Price Development Index still rose throughout July 2026. Monitoring at Pasar Induk Kramat Jati showed honan garlic prices fell from Rp23.000 to Rp22.500 per kilogram. But kating garlic, which is more preferred by consumers, remains expensive because imported stocks are limited, while demand in Jakarta stays high.
