Bangladeshi worker, 38, dies in Singapore tree-felling accident
What's new: Singapore halted the employer's tree-climbing felling work while labor authorities investigate the Katong death.
A 38-year-old Bangladeshi worker died after a tree-felling accident at a private home in Singapore's Katong area, authorities said. The Ministry of Manpower said the tree toppled at its base while the man was carrying out felling work on Oct. 13, causing him to fall with it. Police and the Singapore Civil Defence Force were alerted at about 2:35 p.m. on Cranborne Road. He was taken unconscious to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, where he later died. The ministry said the worker was employed by Soh & Tan Enterprises and ordered the company to stop all tree-felling activities involving tree climbing pending the investigation. Police said preliminary findings showed no foul play.
