Bandung drops plan to seal padel court after 10 trees cut

City Hall will keep only the videotron sealed and prepare to replant 10 trees after the owner admitted cutting them on its own initiative.

The Bandung city government has canceled plans to seal off a padel court in a case involving the cutting of 10 trees on Jalan LL.RE Martadinata, or Jalan Riau. Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan said Satpol PP sealed the videotron instead because the owner, in a police statement, admitted cutting the trees to make the screen more visible and that it was done on his own initiative. Farhan said the padel court could not be directly linked in legal terms because it was managed by a different company. Separately, Bandung City Council Commission I Chairman Radea Respati Paramudhita suspected the cutting was not a spontaneous act but an organized step tied to construction of the padel facility, and urged legal action up to the beneficial owner of the company. The city government is now preparing to replant 10 saplings about five meters tall, but first must remove part of the sidewalk to determine the planting spots.
