Bandung captivity victim is left permanently blind, DPR seeks multiple charges

Family says YTR lost her sight permanently and suffered facial injuries, as police are urged to apply the Criminal Code and TPKS law.

The case of the confinement and abuse of a woman with the initials YTR in Bandung Regency has become more serious after her family said the victim suffered permanent blindness and a damaged lip. YTR, 29, is being treated at Rumah Sakit Hasan Sadikin after she was allegedly confined and assaulted by her boyfriend, Taufik Hidayat, for about three years. The family said it had lost contact with the victim since 2023. In a boarding house room in Cinunuk, Cileunyi, the landlord and residents were said to have repeatedly heard loud impacts, while the victim was rarely seen leaving because the door was allegedly always locked when the suspect went out. In the DPR, House of Representatives Commission III Chairman Habiburokhman urged police to charge Taufik under multiple provisions, including the possibility of using the TPKS law if criminal elements are found. Commission III member Abdullah even called for chemical castration to be considered.
