Australia summons Israeli envoy over Gaza aid worker probe decision

What's new: Canberra said Israel refused a criminal case over the April 2024 strike that killed Australian aid worker Zomi Frankcom and six colleagues.

Australia summoned Israel's ambassador after the Israeli military decided not to open a criminal investigation into the April 2024 Gaza strike that killed World Central Kitchen aid worker Zomi Frankcom and six colleagues. Foreign Minister Penny Wong called the outcome inadequate and said key questions remain, including why three strikes hit the convoy within minutes if the first was a mistake. Wong also said Israel had not provided drone audio requested by Australia. The Israel Defense Forces said the convoy's armed guard had been misidentified as a Hamas fighter and that commanders' actions did not create reasonable suspicion of criminal misconduct, despite what it called serious failures. World Central Kitchen rejected that conclusion and again pushed for an independent investigation.
