Astra launches employee push to use public transit in Jakarta

The Jakarta administration wants public transit use to exceed 30 percent by 2027 as it works to cut traffic congestion and pollution.

Astra launched the “Insan Astra Ayo Naik Transum Jakarta” program to encourage its employees to use public transportation when commuting to and from work in Jakarta. The launch at Menara Astra on June 5 was attended by DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung and Astra President Director Rudy. The company is offering cashback through the AstraPay app, which is already integrated with services such as Transjakarta and MRT Jakarta. Pramono said Astra’s move could prompt other companies to help shift workers from private vehicles to public transit. He said Jakarta’s public transport connectivity has reached 93 percent, but usage remains below 30 percent. The DKI administration is targeting public transit use above 30 percent by 2027 to reduce congestion and pollution.
