As Trump turns 80, more Americans are working deep into old age

What's new: About 19% of Americans 65 and older are working, up fourfold since the mid-1980s, according to Pew data cited by the BBC.

President Donald Trump turns 80 on Sunday as the US workforce includes a growing number of people far past traditional retirement age. The BBC reported that roughly 19% of Americans 65 and older now hold jobs, four times the share in the mid-1980s, citing Pew Research Center data. This year, 24 members of Congress were older than 80, including Sen. Chuck Grassley at 92. Experts cited better access to health care, higher living costs and changing attitudes toward age as reasons more Americans keep working. The story also highlighted older workers including 95-year-old former Michigan internist Arthur Rose and 93-year-old New York matrimonial lawyer Harriet Newman Cohen.
