US strikes Bandar Abbas airport and rail lines, 2 dead

The latest attacks also hit two Iranian islands at the mouth of the Strait of Hormuz, a chokepoint for about one-fifth of global oil and gas trade.

The United States military continued its wave of strikes on Iran on Thursday night, hitting an airport, a train station and two bridges in Bandar Abbas, Hormozgan Province. Iranian state media reported three explosions around the airport, while local officials said two people were killed and four others wounded. U.S. Central Command had earlier said the new strikes were aimed at weakening Iran's military capabilities, extending Washington's campaign to six straight days. Attention also turned to Abu Musa, Tunb Besar and Tunb Kecil at the mouth of the Strait of Hormuz. According to an analysis cited by CNBC Indonesia, the two islands were also struck by the US in the latest escalation, even though the area serves as an IRGC base for monitoring and disrupting shipping on one of the world's most important energy routes.
