Apple sues OpenAI over alleged theft of unreleased device secrets
What's new: Apple asked a California court for a jury trial and wants OpenAI to destroy materials and redesign products tied to the disputed information.
Apple sued OpenAI in federal court in Northern California, accusing the ChatGPT maker and its hardware chief, Tang Tan, of orchestrating a push to obtain confidential details about unreleased Apple devices. The lawsuit alleges OpenAI encouraged Apple employees to share drawings, components and other internal materials as it built its own hardware lineup. Apple also named former engineer Chang Liu, who the company says downloaded dozens of confidential files before joining OpenAI in January. Apple is seeking a jury trial, an order forcing OpenAI to stop using any disputed materials, and changes to upcoming products so they do not incorporate Apple technology. OpenAI denied seeking rivals' trade secrets.
