Apple sues OpenAI, ex-design chief over alleged trade secret theft

Apple filed a trade secret lawsuit in federal court in Northern California accusing OpenAI and its chief hardware officer, Tang Tan, of orchestrating efforts to obtain confidential information about unreleased Apple devices. The complaint also names former iPhone hardware engineer Chang Liu, whom Apple alleges downloaded dozens of internal hardware files before joining OpenAI in January. Apple says OpenAI encouraged employees to share components, drawings and other materials as it built its own device lineup. The case marks a sharp break between partners that have worked together on Apple Intelligence and Siri, and comes as OpenAI, aided by former Apple designer Jony Ive, pushes deeper into hardware.
