Apple sued OpenAI over trade secrets tied to future devices

What's new: The California case also names OpenAI hardware chief Tang Tan and ex-Apple engineer Chang Liu.

Apple filed a trade-secret lawsuit against OpenAI in federal court in Northern California, accusing the ChatGPT maker of orchestrating efforts to obtain confidential details about unreleased Apple devices. The complaint names OpenAI hardware chief Tang Tan, a former Apple product design executive, and former iPhone hardware engineer Chang Liu, who Apple says downloaded dozens of confidential hardware files before joining OpenAI in January. Apple alleges OpenAI pushed employees to share drawings, components and other internal materials as it built a hardware business. The company is seeking a jury trial, damages, destruction of proprietary materials and product redesigns to remove any Apple technology.
