What's new: The deal could be announced as soon as Monday and would expand Aon's reach into midsize businesses.
Aon is close to buying insurance brokerage and consulting firm USI in a deal valued at about $17 billion including debt, according to a Wall Street Journal report carried by CNBC. The transaction could be announced as soon as Monday. USI, based in Valhalla, New York, specializes in risk management, employee benefits and retirement consulting and generates about $3 billion in annual revenue, according to its website. KKR bought USI from Onex in 2017 and increased its ownership over time, becoming the company's largest shareholder in 2023. For Aon, the acquisition would deepen its push into midsize clients and could lift earnings per share by 2028, the report said.
