Anthropic locks in $9.1 billion, 20-year Texas compute deal with Riot
What's new: The contract covers 191 megawatts at Riot's Rockdale campus and could reach $16.1 billion with extensions.
Anthropic has secured a 20-year agreement with Riot Platforms for AI computing capacity at Riot’s Rockdale, Texas, campus, in a deal expected to generate $9.1 billion in revenue. The contract covers 191 megawatts of power through June 2048, with options for two additional five-year extensions that could lift total sales to about $16.1 billion. The arrangement gives Anthropic more grid-connected capacity as demand for AI computing keeps rising, while accelerating Riot’s shift from bitcoin mining toward data center leasing. Riot had identified the customer only as a “leading frontier AI” company. Riot shares initially jumped more than 20% after the deal became public before paring most of those gains.
