Anthropic IPO filing pits 1,300% sales growth against $80.7 billion loss
Why it matters: The AI firm is seeking a valuation of roughly $1.5 trillion to $2 trillion, a test of investor appetite for massive AI spending.
Anthropic’s IPO prospectus laid out the extreme tradeoffs behind what could become the biggest stock offering ever: explosive revenue growth, heavy customer spending and enormous losses tied to the AI buildout. The company reported 1,300% annual sales growth, 900% net revenue retention and an 85% implied gross margin, but also posted a $80.7 billion net loss in the first six months of 2026 after a $12.9 billion loss in the same period a year earlier. Anthropic, founded in 2021 by former OpenAI researchers and known for its Claude models, said it had more than 11,900 customers spending at least $100,000 over the prior year. In the first nine months of 2026, five customers generated about a quarter of revenue.
