Anthropic blocks Fable 5, Mythos 5 after U.S. export order

Anthropic shut off access to its Fable 5 and Mythos 5 AI models after receiving a U.S. government export control order directing the company to suspend use by any foreign national. The order, delivered at 5:21 p.m. ET, applied whether those users were inside or outside the United States and included Anthropic employees who are foreign nationals. Anthropic said it disabled the models for all customers to comply and that its other models were not affected. The move came days after the company introduced Fable 5 and Mythos 5 as state-of-the-art systems. The action adds to Anthropic's broader clash with Washington after the Department of Defense labeled the company a supply chain risk earlier this year and Anthropic sued the Trump administration.
