Andrea Bocelli concert at Borobudur on October 31 lacks permit
MUI still opposes the event and urges the government to decide quickly, warning that debate over Bocelli's Israel support could stir unrest.
Plans for Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli's concert at Taman Lumbini, Candi Borobudur, Magelang, on 31 October 2026 have not yet received a permit. Central Java Kesbangpol head Harso Susilo said that as of Thursday (22/10) no permit application had been submitted to Kesbangpol Magelang or the provincial office, even though a concert with a foreign artist requires a recommendation before further processing by relevant agencies, including police and immigration. As the process remains unfinished, Majelis Ulama Indonesia continues to oppose the concert. MUI Foreign Relations chief Sudarnoto Abdul Hakim said the objection stems from Bocelli's record, which is seen as linked to fundraising activities for Friends of Israel Defense Forces. MUI has asked the government to make a decision soon so the uncertainty does not drag on.
