Alliance Medinet breach exposed data of 110,000 members in Singapore
What's new: regulators are investigating, and bank details of seven members plus one medical diagnosis may have been exposed.
A cyberattack on Singapore healthcare services provider Alliance Medinet compromised personal data for about 110,000 members, affecting customers tied to several insurers including HSBC Life, Income Insurance, Singlife, Tokio Marine, Great Eastern and Cigna. Parent company Alliance Healthcare Group said unauthorized access hit a system holding membership data. Potentially exposed information includes names, ID numbers, dates of birth, contact details, policy information and employment data. The company said bank account information for seven members and one member’s medical diagnosis may also have been accessed. Singapore’s Cyber Security Agency is monitoring the incident, while the Personal Data Protection Commission is investigating. Insurers said their own systems were not breached.
