Alex Hughes, player recruitment lead at League Two club Grimsby Town and the son of former Wales striker Mark Hughes, has died at 38. His family described his death as sudden and unexpected. Grimsby said the club was devastated by the loss of a staff member it called highly respected and central to its recruitment work. Hughes had brief spells as a player with Stockport County and Wrexham before moving into analysis, recruitment and agency roles. He worked at Blackburn, Manchester City and Fulham during periods when his father was manager, then later held roles with AFC Fylde, Morecambe and a private academy in Portugal before joining Grimsby in 2025.
