Air India seeks $1.5 billion from Tata, SIA after $2.33 billion loss
What's next: Any equity injection would likely come in tranches, with Singapore Airlines funding its roughly 25% share if owners approve it.
Air India is seeking about $1.5 billion in fresh equity from owners Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines as the carrier pushes through an expensive turnaround after posting a combined annual loss of $2.33 billion with Air India Express. The request would be among the airline's biggest publicly reported shareholder funding bids since Tata took control in 2022. Discussions are ongoing and no decision has been made. SIA, which owns about 25% of Air India, said it is working with Tata to support the carrier's transformation but did not comment on its finances. Air India has also faced pressure from Pakistan's airspace ban on Indian carriers, disruptions linked to the US-Israeli war with Iran and wider supply-chain problems.
