Air India crash report misses 1-year deadline as engine probe drags on

What's next: India is expected to issue a status update this week, with a final report now likely within three months.

Investigators are set to miss the one-year deadline for a final report on the Air India Boeing 787 crash that killed 260 people after takeoff from Ahmedabad on June 12, 2025, because engine examinations in the United States are still unfinished. India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau is expected to release a status report explaining the delay. Under international rules, a final report is due within a year, or investigators must publish an interim statement on the anniversary. A preliminary report last year found the jet’s fuel control switches moved almost simultaneously from RUN to CUTOFF, cutting fuel to both engines. Reuters previously reported that early US assessments examined whether pilot actions played a role, though the AAIB said it was too early for firm conclusions.
