An Air India captain tested positive for marijuana in a confirmatory drug test after a Phuket-to-New Delhi flight suddenly lost about 300 feet of altitude, Channel News Asia reported, citing a source familiar with the matter. India’s civil aviation ministry had earlier said the captain’s initial screening for psychoactive substances required lab confirmation after the Aug. 4 incident involving Airbus A320neo flight AI2379. Authorities have taken both pilots off the roster while the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau examines the case. The aircraft, carrying 137 passengers and eight crew members, later landed safely in Delhi. The ministry also summoned Air India CEO Campbell Wilson as scrutiny of the airline and India’s aviation safety oversight intensified.
