Abbott seeks DOJ probe of prayer washing stations at 2 Texas airports

What's new: After Abbott's earlier referral, DFW dropped plans for additional stations while CAIR-Texas called the move anti-Muslim.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott asked the Justice Department to investigate ritual washing facilities at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport and Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport, arguing the publicly owned airports may be unlawfully favoring one religion. Abbott had already referred the matter to the Transportation Department and threatened state funding. After that step, DFW said it would not move ahead with plans for more ablution stations, saying the expected benefit might not be achieved. CAIR-Texas pushed back, calling the effort an anti-Muslim political stunt and saying the spaces are accommodations open to any traveler, similar to nursing rooms or interfaith prayer rooms.
