8 rescued after seaplane makes hard landing in New York East River

What's new: The FAA said air traffic control was not providing services to the aircraft during the landing near Brooklyn.

Eight people were rescued after a Kodiak 100 seaplane made a hard landing in the East River near Brooklyn on Sunday, according to US media reports and federal officials. The Federal Aviation Administration said the aircraft came down in the river while approaching a seaplane base in Manhattan and that air traffic control was not providing services to the flight at the time. The New York Times reported the plane had departed from the Hamptons and struck a wave during landing, leaving it partially capsized. No deaths were reported. The incident came about three weeks after another seaplane was damaged in the East River during a takeoff attempt near Queens.
