7,669 families in Cengkareng help raise Wolbachia eggs

Cengkareng was chosen after logging 563 dengue cases, the highest in West Jakarta, with Kapuk recording 234.

A total of 7,669 families in six subdistricts in Cengkareng, West Jakarta, are becoming foster parents in the rollout of Wolbachia technology to curb dengue fever. They will care for and monitor containers used to develop Aedes mosquitoes carrying Wolbachia in their neighborhoods. According to Head of the West Jakarta Health Agency Sahruna, the program was launched at RPTRA Utama, Cengkareng Barat, on 21 August 2026 as the second expansion in West Jakarta after Kembangan. As of 20 August 2026, West Jakarta recorded 1,591 dengue cases with an incident rate of 62.3 per 100,000 residents. Cengkareng was the hardest-hit area with 563 cases and an IR of 96.7, while Kapuk reported 234 cases and an IR of 133.6.
