6,000 martial artists stage flash mob at Bundaran HI during car free day
The PB IPSI event marked the 81st anniversary of Indonesia's independence and promoted pencak silat preservation in public spaces in Jakarta.
About 6,000 martial artists from various silat schools staged a pencak silat flash mob at the Bundaran Hotel Indonesia area in Jakarta during Car Free Day on Sunday, Aug. 9, 2026. The coordinated performance featured a range of traditional self-defense movements and drew the attention of residents enjoying car free day in the capital's center. Pengurus Besar Ikatan Pencak Silat Indonesia (PB IPSI) organized the event to mark the 81st anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia. It was also intended to introduce and preserve pencak silat as Indonesia's traditional martial art through public spaces.
