Five cyclists launched the Ekspedisi Hutan Merdeka from the National Monument area in Jakarta on Sunday, Aug. 2, 2026. They will travel about 1,700 kilometers across five provinces on Sumatera to campaign for protection of Indonesia's tropical forests and the habitat of the Sumatera orangutan. Along the provincial route, the participants are scheduled to meet residents to spread the message about the importance of preserving forests as a support for life and biodiversity.
