43 boats made from plastic waste parade on Danau Sunter

The DLH DKI festival marks World Rivers Day and urges residents not to dump plastic into rivers or lakes.

A total of 43 decorated boats made from bottle waste and plastic trash paraded in the Festival Cinta Lingkungan at Danau Sunter, Jakarta, on Sunday (18/10). The event, organized by Dinas Lingkungan Hidup DKI Jakarta through Unit Penanganan Sampah Badan Air, was part of the World Rivers Day commemoration. The boats were built from plastic waste processed into creative works on water. Through the festival, residents were invited to see plastic waste not only as discarded material, but also as something that can still be reused. The event was also meant to remind the public not to dump trash into waterways, rivers and lakes that are vulnerable to plastic pollution.
