4 Palestinians, 2 Israelis killed in West Bank clash near Tal

What's new: Israel's military canceled leave and moved reinforcements into the area as accounts of how the shooting began diverged sharply.

A deadly confrontation near the West Bank village of Tal killed four Palestinians and two Israelis on Friday, in one of the deadliest single incidents in the territory in months. The violence unfolded southwest of Nablus amid a rise in attacks involving Israeli settlers and Palestinians. Palestinian officials and witnesses said settlers attacked homes in Tal, villagers confronted them, and Israeli soldiers then opened fire. Israel's military gave a different account, saying Israeli civilians hiking nearby came under attack, a Palestinian seized a weapon from a security guard and shot Israelis before being killed. After the shooting, Israeli forces sealed off the area, searched for other suspects and sent additional troops. Palestinian health officials said several other Palestinians were wounded.
