4 killed in Oregon elementary school shooting; teen gunman dead

What's new: Police said the 16-year-old forced his way in, targeted a special education classroom and was stopped within minutes.

A 16-year-old former student killed three children and a teacher at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon, before dying at the scene, authorities said. Police said the gunman shot through locked glass doors to enter the school and then went into a special education classroom near the entrance, firing up to 15 rounds. The dead included 5-year-old Rhoam Summer and teacher Megan Lambert, 25. A 7-year-old child and another teacher were hospitalized with critical injuries. Bend Police Chief Mike Krantz said officers arrived within about three minutes of the first 911 call. Officials are still investigating the motive. Gov. Tina Kotek joined local residents at a vigil as the city mourned.
