30 Hectares Burned in Gunung Rinjani Fire Put Out Overnight
Twenty-two joint personnel were deployed in Sembalun, and teams are still sweeping the area to prevent reignition.
A fire burned about 30 hectares in the Gunung Rinjani National Park area in Sembalun, East Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, on Friday afternoon into night, Aug. 7. Flames were spotted on the border between the national park core area and residents' gardens in Maletan, toward Bukit Tiga. Joint teams found three active fire points and extinguished them with water pumps, fire suppressant and machetes. According to TN Gunung Rinjani and BNPB, 22 joint personnel were deployed, including national park staff, residents, Polsek and Koramil Sembalun officers, and Damkar Lombok Timur. The fire was brought under control on Saturday at about 01.30 WITA. No fatalities were reported. The cause remains under investigation, while teams continue mopping up to make sure no hot spots remain.
