249 Kajoran residents in Magelang suspected poisoned after fruit ice
New: 121 patients remain under hospital observation, while local authorities have opened a 24-hour post and are covering treatment costs.
A total of 249 residents of Kajoran subdistrict, Magelang regency, Central Java, are suspected of suffering food poisoning after eating es buah. Patients began arriving almost simultaneously at Puskesmas Kajoran 1 on Wednesday (14/10), with the main complaints of vomiting, diarrhea, headaches and weakness. Magelang regency Health Office head Lies Pramudiyanti said the medical history findings showed most patients had consumed the same food, prompting an epidemiological investigation. By Thursday afternoon, 121 patients were still at the hospital for observation and about one-third could be admitted. Magelang Regent Grengseng Pamuji has set up an emergency post at Puskesmas Kajoran 1 and 2 for 24 hours and said outpatient and inpatient costs will be covered by the local government.
