22 missing after Panama-flagged bulk carrier sinks off India
What's new: Two of the ship's 24 crew were rescued from life rafts as Indian Navy and Coast Guard aircraft and vessels searched the area.
A Panama-flagged bulk carrier bound for Singapore sank off India’s eastern coast, leaving 22 crew members missing as rescuers searched the area on Sunday. The vessel, MV Ocean Winner, had departed Paradip port in Odisha and sent a distress alert about 700 kilometers east of Visakhapatnam, the Indian Navy said. A joint operation with the Indian Coast Guard pulled two crew members from life rafts after a navy aircraft spotted them and coordinated with the nearby tanker MT Aisopos. Press Trust of India, citing coast guard sources, reported the 24-member crew included 20 Chinese nationals, three from Myanmar and one from Bangladesh.
