2 suspects named in illegal road opening at TN Bukit Barisan
Investigators are tracing who ordered and funded the work; penalties can reach 10 years in prison and a Rp2 miliar fine.
The Ministry of Forestry has named two suspects in a case involving illegal road opening with heavy equipment in the Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park area in Lampung Barat. They are S (64), the owner of the heavy equipment, and TN (26), an excavator operator who was detained while the activity was under way in Dusun Margajaya, Bandar Negeri Suoh. Officers also seized one hydraulic excavator. The Sumatra Regional Forestry Law Enforcement Center said the investigation does not stop with the two suspects, but is also tracing the purpose of the road opening, who ordered it, who funded it, and who benefited. Both are charged under the Forestry Law and face a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a fine of up to Rp2 miliar.
